Hands-On STEM Education for All Students

A World In Motion ® (AWIM)

Adding hands-on, real world STEM experiences to your curriculum can seem like a daunting task particularly with an already “over-filled” teaching day. SAE’s A World In Motion® (AWIM) PreK-12 STEM education programming makes implementation easy!

Now our program staff can train you to bring an amazing experience to your students that is a fully integrated STEM curriculum and show you how it correlates to all your STEM standards. This curriculum does so much more than cover the academic material. AWIM teaches students to problem solve and think analytically.

Benchmarked to National Education Standards

The curriculum is benchmarked to the Next Generation Science, Common Core Mathematics and Language Arts Standards and is keenly aligned to both the developmental and educational milestones of children 5-14. To date the A World In Motion (AWIM) STEM education program has served more than 6 million students around the globe and engaged over 30,000 industry volunteers.

Experiential STEM Learning Experiences

AWIM is designed to provide equitable access to STEM education using an integrated hands-on, age–appropriate curricular experience identified as the Engineering Design Experience (EDE). The EDE provides a problem-solving context in which students design a product or devise a solution to a problem through a teacher-facilitated challenge. Teams of students examine who the product is for; what must be accomplished; gather and synthesize information; design, develop, and test a prototype design; and prepare a presentation of their design ideas.

“Our teachers and students, who are using the AWIM curriculum, love it. The AWIM curriculum is easy to use for our teachers, while it remains highly engaging and fun for our students. Elwood Haynes Elementary School loves the exposure to quality hands-on STEM content, which also requires our students to use a deeper level of thinking.”

Collegiate Design Series

At the university level, Extreme Engineering is what you get with the SAE Collegiate Design Series™. CDS takes learning beyond textbook theory to designing, building and testing the performance of a real vehicle. CDS provides world-class, hands-on learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, developing and training the next generation of mobility engineers.

The diverse menu of competitions includes Aero Design, Clean Snowmobile Challenge, Formula SAE, Formula Electric, Baja SAE, and Supermileage. All competitions within CDS prepare undergraduate and graduate engineering students in a variety of disciplines for future employment in mobility-related industries by challenging them with a hands-on, team engineering experience which also requires budgeting, communication, project management, and resource management skills (the top skills most valued by today’s innovative organizations).

Students from around the globe unite in this intense experience and regularly land their first engineering job by talking with recruiters from leading companies in the mobility industry at CDS events.
