SAE Foundation to Honor Racing Legend Jack Roush at Annual Celebration May 23, 2017 in Detroit
WARRENDALE, Pa., (Nov. 30, 2016) - The SAE Foundation will hold its Annual Celebration on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. The evening will feature the presentation of the 2017 SAE Foundation Industry Leadership Award to Jack Roush, Founder, CEO and Co-Owner of Roush Fenway Racing, and Chairman of the Board of Roush Enterprises.
For over 45 years Roush has been committed to winning on and off the track. Having won 32 championships and more than 400 races in drag racing, sports car and stock car racing, Roush is one of professional sports' premiere organizations. With championships in NASCAR's top three divisions, Roush Fenway Racing exemplifies Jack Roush's tradition and success and is poised to continue their winning tradition well into the future.
Roush also heads up Roush Industries, Inc. which employs over 4,000 employees in facilities located throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Widely recognized for providing engineering, testing, prototype, and manufacturing services to the transportation industry, Roush also provides significant support to the aerospace, defense and theme park industries.
In addition to the Industry Leadership Award, the SAE Foundation will also present its annual Young Industry Leadership Award; the Ableson Award for Visionary Leadership; and the Gordon Millar award, sponsored by AVL.
Other highlights of the celebration will include a unique VIP and Reception and Guest Networking Reception where local students present exhibits from their participation in SAE International’s award-winning STEM education programs - A World In Motion® (AWIM) and the Collegiate Design Series™.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit the SAE Foundation. The Foundation is addressing one of the most pressing issues facing industry today - the decline of students enrolling in science and technology programs – by providing pre-K through college programming that brings math and science to life and fills the workforce pipeline with skilled technical talent.
Since its inception, SAE International’s AWIM curriculum has served more than 5 million students, involving more than 30,000 industry volunteers. Based on surveys, 72% of students experienced a significant increase in math and science scores.
100 percent of the top 50 engineering-degree producing universities participate in at least one SAE International Collegiate Design Series event including eight universities in Michigan: Michigan Technological University, Kettering University, Oakland Community College, Lawrence Technological University, Wayne State University, Michigan State University, University of Michigan and University of Michigan – Dearborn.
